Surabaya Hajj General Hospital was established in 1990 on the initiative of and funds from the Provincial Government of East Java. Grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was also obtained. The "Hajj Hospital" is named after the historic incident of Indonesian Hajj pilgrimage in 1990. Nevertheless, Surabaya Hajj General Hospital is open for public and is providing services for all.
Surabaya Hajj General Hospital occupies 22.205 m2 width building in an area of 24.000 m2 in the eastern Surabaya. Starting its endeavour as a Non-Educational C Class Hospital, Surabaya Hajj General Hospital had become a Non-Educational B Class Hospital within 5 years. In 2004, Surabaya Hajj General Hospital was then classified as a General Service Institution, or Badan Layanan Umum. Today, it has a full capacity to provide a wide range of healthcare services spearheaded by qualified human resources, modern medical devices and comprehensive facilities.
By the end of 2004, Surabaya Hajj General Hospital has a total of 227 in-patient beds. The wards are classified into VVIP, VIP A and B, Primary (Utama) 1 and 2, as well as Class (Kelas) 1, 2 and 3. The 24-hour Emergency Unit is staffed with experienced doctors and nurses. Specialist doctors are readily available to handle 22 Specialist Polyclinics that include Dental, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Cardiology and Medical Rehabilitation.
The 5 Specific Services cover Holistic Medical and Spiritual Service (Religious Counselling), Hajj Health Centre, Dermatology, Specialist Dental Polyclinic and Acupuncture. Surgery Services comprise General Surgery, Orthopaedic, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Obstetric and Gynaecology, Urology, Digestive as well as Dermatology and Plastic Surgery.
The advanced medical equipments include Endoscope, Bronchoscope, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Echocardiography, Electro Encephalography (EEG), CT Scan and Brain Mapping. Other supporting facilities consist of Intensive Care Unit, Radiology, Rehabilitation Centre, Laboratory, Anatomy Pathology and Nutrition.
